This factory offers visitors panoramic gardens, a museum space, a shop, and a tea room where visitors can enjoy a free tea tasting. Porto Formoso teas are made from the Camellia sinensis tea plant, China variety, using organic farming methods.

Note: There are two tea plantations on the island, both on the north coast and only 2.5 km apart. If you love tea, be sure to visit both!

13. Liquor Factory – Mulher do Capote

This regional liquor factory is located in Ribeira Grande. It is not possible to see the production process, only the labeling section. However, it’s a great stop if you want to buy different beverages to take as souvenirs. They offer various miniature liquor options, perfect for gifting to family and friends.
You can also sample some of the liquors produced at the factory.

16. Museu Carlos Machado

This museum in a former convent offers eclectic exhibits with historical artefacts, art and taxidermy. That was created in 1876 and opened in 1880, is a public service institution determined to preserve and showcase its vast and rich heritage, which is the foundation and expression of an Islander’ s identity in the midst of a large sea.

17. Local Market – Mercado da Graça

Built in 1848, the space offers a wide variety of fresh regional products, but the best known is pineapple, one of the island’s most emblematic exports. It is one of the most visited tourist attractions in the city. In the market you can find sellers of fruit, vegetables, fish, meat and cheese.

 

18. Museu da Emigração

Located in the historic 19th-century fish market building, the museum showcases the history of emigrants who left in search of better living conditions, primarily to Brazil, the United States, and Canada.

Its collection mainly consists of objects donated by Azorean emigrants living in America and Canada.

The museum also houses a significant collection of photographs and videos featuring testimonies from emigrants. It is a true repository of the memories and experiences of the Azorean people.

19. Pineapple Plantation

This pineapple plantation – Augusto Arruda – has over 100 years of history. The visit is free, and you’ll be able to discover all the stages of pineapple cultivation. In addition to touring the greenhouses, you can also visit the souvenir shop, where you’ll find products made with pineapple. 20. Gorreana – Tea Factory

The oldest tea plantation in Europe, dating back to 1883, is available to visit every day of the week and reservations are not necessary.
