This distillery was created with the goal of transforming waste from the wood and stone industries of São Miguel into wellness products. By distilling more than 10 local plants, the brand creates organic essential oils that give new life to the natural resources of the Azores Islands.

All products carry the Marca Açores certification (“Certified by Nature”), which guarantees the origin, authenticity, sustainability and quality of genuine Azorean products and services. It is a mark of excellence that values local knowledge, craftsmanship and regional products.

Products

Essential Oils

Essential oils are 100% pure natural liquid extracts obtained from flowers, leaves, roots, seeds, fruits or other parts of plants. They have therapeutic properties when inhaled or absorbed through the skin. They can be used for massage (mixed with creams or carrier oils), baths, inhalation or diffusion, making them a natural way to enjoy the aromas of Azorean plants.

Floral Waters

Also known as hydrosols, floral waters are a by-product of the essential oil distillation process. Although less concentrated than essential oils, they still offer hydrating, toning and refreshing properties. Because they are gentle, floral waters can be used by children, adults, seniors and even people with sensitive health conditions.

Basalt Powder

Basalt powder is made from the iconic volcanic basalt rock that shapes the Azores Islands, the same black stone used in traditional houses and cobblestone streets across the archipelago.The rock is finely ground into a mineral-rich powder, which is used in an innovative way as a natural skincare treatment.

Sustainability

In addition to using plant leaves and volcanic stone to create its main products, Essentia Azorica focuses strongly on sustainability.

The candle cups are handmade ceramic pieces—created in partnership with a local social project called ‘Mãos Que Criam’— designed to look like collectible items.

After the candle is finished, they can be reused as drinking cups, pencil holders, containers for small objects, or even for small plants.

The ceramic plates that accompany the candles can also be reused, for example to prepare a facial mask using the basalt powder.
