Vila Franca do Campo Islet

If you’re planning a trip to the Azores, make sure to visit Ilhéu de Vila Franca, a small natural wonder located off the south coast of São Miguel Island, in the municipality of Vila Franca do Campo.

Situated about 500 meters from the shore, this volcanic islet is also known as the “Princess Ring” due to its circular shape, approximately 150 meters in diameter, formed by a submarine eruption around 4,000 years ago.

When to Visit?

Visits to the islet are only permitted during the official bathing season, which in 2026 runs from June 12th to October 11th. To help preserve this unique natural area, the number of visitors is limited to 400 people per day.

Boats depart daily at 10:00 AM, 11:00 AM, 11:30 AM, and 1:00 PM. After the 1:00 PM departure, additional crossings are available every hour until 6:00 PM.

Tickets cost €15 per person, while Azores residents benefit from a reduced fare of €6. If you purchase your ticket at the ticket office, it is only valid for the same day.

Alternatively, you can book online up to 10 days in advance and no later than 24 hours before your chosen departure, subject to availability. To secure your spot in advance, you can purchase your tickets online via the  TICKET OFFICE.
