Sintonia Experience – Tradition and Modernity on Terceira Island

More than just a restaurant, Sintonia Experience stands as a meeting point between Azorean tradition and contemporary cuisine.
Each dish tells a story rooted in the heritage of Terceira Island, reinterpreted with creativity and respect for authentic flavours.

The restaurant’s philosophy is grounded in well-executed simplicity, the excellence of its ingredients, and a genuine connection to local identity.

Opened in the summer of 2025, Sintonia Experience is located in Angra do Heroísmo, on Terceira Island, within a century-old building carefully restored in 2023.

Concept

The culinary concept is based on short, seasonal menus, created almost exclusively from local ingredients.

Chef Carlos Nuno pays tribute to Terceira Island with a menu that celebrates the best of the Azores, combining tradition and innovation in every dish.

The fish comes from artisanal fishing, the meats from selected local farmers, and only three ingredients are sourced from outside the archipelago: rice, olive oil, and shrimp. Everything else is obtained from the islands themselves, through close collaboration with regional producers.

Fresh, seasonal products take centre stage in creations that reflect the authenticity of Azorean cuisine, reimagined with technique, creativity, and contemporary flair.

Atmosphere

The ambiance is warm and welcoming, ideal for a romantic dinner or a relaxed meal among friends.

The restaurant features a cosy indoor dining area with just a few tables, and a charming outdoor patio, perfect for milder evenings.

During dinner service, Portuguese music, including fado, fills the air — creating an atmosphere that is both genuinely local and effortlessly relaxing.

Gastronomic Experience

During the visit, it became clear that every detail of the service is handled with care. Each dish is presented with explanations about the ingredients and preparation process, reflecting the team’s commitment to transparency and respect for regional products.

Among the dishes tasted, the highlights were:

  • Picapau: Tender strips of sautéed beef, served with homemade pickles and a rich demi-glace sauce that brings out the full depth of flavor.
  • Broken Eggs with Shrimp: Hand-cut crispy potatoes fermented in salted water, garlicky sautéed shrimp, blood sausage, shrimp-head mayo, and a slow-cooked egg.

 

All the dishes were expertly prepared, with balanced flavours and a clear emphasis on local ingredients.

Monday, Thursday and Friday: 5:00 pm – 10:00 pm
Saturday and Sunday: 12:00 pm – 10:00 pm
Closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays
