The Van Tour will take you up to the Volcano Crater and the protected Natural Reserve of Lagoa do Fogo, stopping at the Pico da Barrosa, Lagoa do Fogo, and Bela Vista viewpoints — for photos and some of São Miguel’s best island views over the beautiful turquoise lake in the 15,000-year-old crater, its endemic flora, dramatic surroundings, and the Atlantic Ocean.

You will then head down the mountain northward, passing by the Caldeira Velha environmental center, where you can learn about the volcanic origin of the islands, their biodiversity, geodiversity, and geothermal resources.

Optionally, you can enjoy a thermal bath at Caldeira Velha’s hot springs, or alternatively, further ahead, you can visit the refreshing cold waterfall at Salto do Cabrito, surrounded by untouched lush green flora. If there’s time left, further down the mountain, you can visit the historic center of Ribeira Grande and the 16th-century fountain at Largo de São Pedro, ending the tour at the northern Santa Barbara Beach.

Who cannot participate?

• Not suitable for anyone in a wheelchair, with delicate health conditions, or under the age of 4.
• Bathing in the hot springs is unsuitable for anyone who is pregnant, has recently undergone surgery or trauma, has unhealed wounds, or suffers from any chronic condition.

• Personal water bottle
• Light food is permitted onboard, and a Camera is essential, specially for photography lovers – protect any personal equipment!

• We suggest bringing swimwear and a towel. The volcanic water may damage the color of your swimwear – use one you don’t mind getting ruined!
